// vellichor: the strange wistfulness of used bookstores //

please take a long hard look through your textbook, ’cause i’m history.

cave in // owl city

i took these pictures during my trip to pennsylvania, at an enormous store called baldwin’s book barn. there would have been more photos, but the lighting was pretty bad, and most of them turned out blurry. these will have to do.

i haven’t gotten any books out of the library in quite some time, and i feel like my imagination is suffering because of it. there are a few books i would like to read, including the creeping shadow by jonathan stroud, letters to the lost by brigid kemmerer, and harry potter and the goblet of fire by j.k. rowling. but any suggestions would be appreciated, especially if it’s summery or fantasy.

random updates:

☼ i’ve been drawing a lot lately, so there should be an art post sometime soon.

☼ my newest music obsession is oh wonder.

☼ i!! have!! a!! new!! story!! idea!!

☼ you guys successfully cured my boredom on my q&a post, but now i have to answer 100+ questions.

AHH I LOVE USED BOOKSTORES. That last picture is really pretty!

    Book suggestions:
The Fiddler’s Gun (summery, pirate-y historical fiction/slight romance)
All The Wrong Questions (amazing mystery series by an amazing author)
If you like A Mango Shaped Space, you might like Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life (by the same author.) It’s a strange book, but you might enjoy it. It’s very summery. :)
Can’t wait for the art post!

Beautiful! I’ll have to visit that bookstore someday- it looks… nice.

NEW STORY IDEA? *begs you to tell me* if you want to work on it during Camp NaNo, you can join my cabin. :)

A good book suggestion… Have you read The Lunar Chronicles? They’re beautiful. I love them.

And I can’t wait to read the answers to the questions. :)

      thank you!

i just came up with it last night, so i’m not entirely sure what it’s about. XD but it’s going to be about a young witch (harry potter-style magic), basically. july looks a little busy for me, so i don’t know if i can fit in camp nano, but i’ll let you know if anything changes. thank you for the offer. :)

i haven’t read the lunar chronicles, but i’ve heard about it. thanks for the suggestion.

they were a lot of fun to answer! :D

I love HP-esque magic!! It’s like going home after a long trip- you’ve forgotten it, but you remember it still. If you can fit in camp, please do tell me! It’d be great to have you in our cabin. Our cabin name is ‘insert clever cabin name’.

The lunar chronicles basically sucked me in and refused to let me go. I was obsessed for about two weeks. Couldn’t stop reading them.

Nice pictures! That place looks exactly how I imagine a used bookstore to look. :D

As for book suggestions, you should definitely read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire first in my opinion. XD Then read the rest of the series. XD XD

-His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
-Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare (better than mortal instruments I think, but that could be just me)

Yes bookstores! :) You should definitely read the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. They are so awesome. It’s a fantasy about 6 genetically altered kids with wings.

Love these photos! There’s a huge book farm near me, there’s 3 barns full of old and used books you can purchase and there’s a little coffee shop with places you can sit and read. I love it there, you should definitely read Harry Potter. I’ve been meaning to buy the books for a while now! X

Vellichor is such a pretty word.
That bookstore looks so neat. I have loads of suggestions, but I have some pretty dark tastes in books and they’re largely contemporary. :P I’ve heard Fablehaven is good, though, and I’ve been reading the Lunar Chronicles and those are good.
Congrats on the new story idea!
Yikes! You don’t have to answer all the questions if you don’t want to. :P Or maybe you could just do a few whenever you’re bored?

    Have a good day.

yay, books! one of my favorite topics. vellichor is such a beautiful word. i think you should reread the whole keeper of the lost cities series, in preparation for nightfall coming out this november. also, you should read everything everything by nicola yoon and fan art by sarah tregay. they’re both super good!!!!! everything everything is my favorite book. also, if you don’t cry while reading the fault in our stars, you must be a brain dead zombie.

nightfall comes out in november? i had no clue, holy crap. i’m really excited now.

i’ve heard about “everything everything,” and it looks really good. :)

i already know what “the fault in our stars” is about, so i don’t think it will be too shocking. but i’m pretty sensitive, so i’ll probably cry anyway.
